Army Life in Bangalore is really weird considering the fact that none of the Army kids want to be a part of the army gatherings. In a place like udhampur where the northern command of the indian army is situated going to the NSOI(north star officers institute)is an event to look forward to for all the Kids.I remember how i used to be excited to go these parties, especially of all the cute gals who used to come with their parents. This essensce of gatherings has gone for a conplete toss in bangalore as the most of the ARMY establishments are in the heart of the city.kids prefer going for a movie and a mug of beer with friends over a nice evening with their parents.it's also clearly evident that the army dependents who have always lived and studied in bangalore don't have much attachment with the ARMY, something very unlike typical army kids. The commercialization is definetly getting on the crowd as i see more and more army kids abstaining themselves from the gatherings and trying to get independent much before they should.Army society has been one of the best societies to belong to and thus it's a shame that we are missing out on it and trying to unbelong from it.

Very well said. I totally agree with you. I too am a fauji kid and have stayed in Udhampur but at that time NSOI was COI (Chinar Officers Institute) and there used to be a rose garden beside the lawn between the swimming pool changing room and the main building. I owe the best years of my kiddie years and teenage life to the services: The unit picnics, swimming pools, the weekend gettogethers at the clubs, badmintion games in the unit messes, managing beer through the youngsters and getting away with it, seeing different places at sarkari expences .... the list is endless. But what memories???

it's been almost a decade the i left udhampur for blore and believe me
the love for the place is still as good as it was just yesterday!!
I remember Belly's Fast food..The chat shop on the ground floor, the
Chinar movie hall..Lovely sweets ke laddu..The Badminton court and the
basketball court next to the library where couples could be seen
hanging around in the evenings.
My love for the army has pulled me back into the system though briefly
i cherish each moment of this life.
